Beachy Summer Waves DIY & No Heat Curls How To
The summer heat really makes hair dos hard to maintain. I wake up in the morning, shower, and it’s just too steamy to get my hair straightened. That’s why beach waves hair spray and tousling mousse has become my best friend. You spray and go, letting the air do the trick.
Made famous by celebrities and cool California girls coming from the surf, beach waves hair spray is a summer staple in your hair care. Instead of juggling a blow dryer, hair brush, hair spray, gel, and mousse, all you need is a comb and spray. Unfortunately, this hot commodity can be pricey. I snagged Bath & Body Works’ beach wave sea salt spray last summer for almost $15. It’s so expensive, I hate to use it.
Thus a DIY sea salt spray is a must! Adding texture, conditioner and volume without the chemicals and expense is always a good thing.

Love beachy summer waves? Here’s a how-to that you don’t need a celebrity stylist to get. DIY beach waves hair spray is about to rock your summer.
DIY Beach Waves Hair Spray Recipe
Here’s what you will need:
- 1 cup hot water or strong Chamomile Tea. The tea will lighten hair, or to darken use black tea. If you use tea, you’re going to have to keep this in the fridge.
- 2 tablespoons Espom Salts, the more you add the more texture you will get!
- 1/2 teaspoon Himalayan or Sea Salt – optional, adds stiffness
- 1 teaspoon Aloe Vera Gel
- 1/2 teaspoon conditioner or a couple drops of almond or Jajoba Oil
- Optional: essential oils or your favorite perfume to scent, and 1 teaspoon lemon juice and vodka/ alcohol (again, this will lighten your hair)
Get a spray bottle that is at least 10 ounces. Add the hot water/tea, epsom salts/sea salts, aloe vera, conditioner, scent, and vodka/lemon juice. Cap the bottle and shake, shake, shake until the salts are nicely dissolved. If you’re using lemon juice or the tea base, you must store the spray in your fridge; if not, you can leave it out. This should last about three to four months, the perfect amount of time for the summer!
How to Use Beach Waves Hair Spray
The simplest hair style you can do is using beach waves hair spray. Spritz it all over your damp hair and scrunch with your fingers or a towel.
I’ve found that spraying the stuff on while my hair is wet and then french braiding the night before gives me an all day hold. If you’re a fan of the messier look, try rolling it into a bun over night.
Are you a beach waves fan? What inspires your summer hair?
