DIY Calamine Lotion Recipe
Of the homemade anti-itch creams out there, this one seems the most practical. Another good recipe I found sounds easy as well, but it will turn you bright pink as long as it’s on your skin. For those that don’t want to turn their home 50 shades of pink, this is your recipe!
Homemade Anti-Itch Lotion Ingredients:
- 1 teaspoon non-nano zinc oxide powder
- 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons bentonite clay
- 1 tablespoon witch hazel
- 10 drops peppermint essential oil
How to Make Your Own Calamine Lotion:
This recipe is really amazing, and here is a little explanation of why! Bentonite is a fantastic creation that sucks up all the posion, heavy metals and toxins. Even just sitting on your skin, it’s doing more than soothing – it’s getting rid of the rash! The peppermint oil is going to give you a cooling sensation so that the itch stops right away.
Mix the zinc oxide, sea salt, baking soda, and bentonite clay. Slowly, add the witch hazel and stir continuously until it’s nice and creamy. Then, add your peppermint oil.
It’s a good idea to keep all of the dry ingredients on hand in a jar. Then all you have to do is mix in the wet ingredients. This recipe may not last super long, so use it up!
Homemade Lavender Chamomile Sleeping Lotion
Now, if you’re like me when you get a rash you just can’t sleep. Skip the drowsy allergy medicine and reach for some lavender. This sleepy time lotion is going to whisk you right off to dream land.
Homemade Sleeping Lotion Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 ounces Beeswax, grated
- 3 ounces solid Coconut Oil
- 5 teaspoons of Chamomile Flowers
- 5 teaspoons of Lavender Buds
- (if you’re using fresh, double the amount of flowers and buds)
- 6 ounces of liquid Jojoba Oil, infused
- Essential Oil
- Double boiler, blender or food processor, cheesecloth or fine strainer, scale
- 8 ounces of distilled water
How to Make Lotion that Helps You Sleep:
Infuse that oil! The chamomile and lavender go in with the jojoba oil. Bring this to a gentle boil and heat for about 2 hours. Strain and toss out the herbs. This can be bottled for later use!
In the double boiler, put the coconut oil and 6 ounces of the infused jojoba oil. Then add in grated beeswax and melt it all together. Remove and let it cool to body temp, stirring to keep it smooth.
Heat the water to body temperature and pour in a tall container. Turn the blender/processor on low and pour a thin stream of oil into the water. A cream will start to form and more and more mixing will smooth it out. Add in the essential oil a few drops at a time until it’s perfectly scented.
You can use this cream to help you relax before bed, or even to destress!
