A Neti pot can reduce nasal irritation and clean out your sinuses. It thins mucus and flushes it out of your nasal passages. Most Neti pots come with instructions, but here is how they work.
You mix 16 ounces of lukewarm water with a teaspoon of salt. Use distilled or sterile water to make this solution. Fill the Neti pot and tilt your head over the sink, placing the spout in your top nostril, slowly pour the solution into that nostril. The solution flows through your nasal cavity and and out the other nostril. It may run into your throat, but you should spit it out. Blow your nose and repeat the process with a fresh solution through the other nostril.
Make sure to completely clean and air dry the pot after each use. There have been cases where irritation occurs, but cleaning prevents infection and irritation. Neti pots are sold at drug stores, health food stores and online.
