Good Morning America: Home Laundry Hacks
Almost everyone has a favorite shirt, lucky hat, or comfortable pair of shoes. No matter why you love it, you want to take care of it so it lasts a long time. Good Morning America’s Reena Ninan revealed some hacks that can help you keep your favorites in great shape without having to run the washing machine.
T-Shirt Cleaning Hack: Baby Shampoo
Katie Brown of Yahoo Makers joined GMA to explain how you can make wardrobe staples last. To keep your favorite T-shirt clean, use Baby Shampoo. Apply this to any stains, gently rubbing the material together. The mildness of the soap will be less harsh on the fibers of your shirt.
Washing machines can warp or shrink shirts, so try soaking this in a tub or bowl for four to five hours. After the soak, resist the urge to wring out your shirt, which can mess up the fabric and fit. Instead, lay the shirt out between two towels. Then roll the towels up to press out the water. Unroll and let it dry before putting the clean shirt away.
Good Morning America: Baseball Cap Cleaning Hack
To keep a favorite hat clean, Brown suggested grabbing a deep Tupperware container with a lid. Add liquid detergent and water to the container. Then submerge the hat and place the lid on top. Shake it up and let it soak for awhile.
If you need help getting the bubbles off, rinse the hat with water. Next, place it on a balloon to dry so that it keeps its perfect shape and will soon be ready to wear. “It’s going to smell great,” Brown said.
Sneaker Cleaning Hack: Essential Oil + Baking Soda
Keep those stinky sneakers clean by freshening them between uses. Mix a few drops of any Essential Oil with Baking Soda and sprinkle this into the sole of your shoe. Shake it around inside the shoe so it gets distributed evenly. After letting it sit overnight, shake out the baking soda the next morning and your shoes will smell fresher than ever.
